The Housing Agency.

The Housing Agency was set up in May 2010 to work with and support local authorities approved housing bodies, and the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government in the delivery of housing and housing services.

Our Services

We provide services for local authorities and approved housing bodies to assist them in carrying out their housing functions. We deal directly with the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government; all local authorities and approved housing bodies.

Housing Management Services

Our Housing Management Services offers support to local authority housing practitioners and approved housing bodies in relation to all aspects of housing.

Our dedicated team aim to:

advise on the development and implementation of housing policy and legislation
promote good practice in housing management.

Housing Procurement Office

Housing Procurement Office - provides procurement and project management services to:

Local Authorities
Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs)
Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government

The Housing Procurement Office provides procurement support and advice in support of local authorities and AHBs in the accelerated delivery of their social housing programmes. The Office works with local authorities and AHBs to build their capacity and expertise to meet the scale and complexity associated with the ambitious programme of delivery. It is also available to co-ordinate project development and project briefs in local authority areas, and can manage the design and tendering processes for local authorities and AHBs, as required, including the procurement of consultants and contractors.

What we Do

We support the delivery of social housing by:

Providing support and advice on housing delivery mechanisms to key stakeholders involved in the delivery of social housing.
Assessment of funding applications from Approved Housing Bodies for the construction or acquisition of social housing;
GIS mapping of local authority housing land and management of development of land aggregation scheme land.
Work with bodies involved in the delivery of social housing and affordable housing, to ensure successful and consistent implementation of housing policy.
acquisition of properties from financial institutions and investment company’s on behalf of Local Authorities and Approved Housing Bodies;
Coordinate the delivery of properties identified by the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) for social housing working with local authorities and approved housing bodies.
Provide a centralised underwriting service and carry out credit checks for local authorities in respect of their loan services to facilitate home purchase.
Provide support to local authorities in relation to the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) and Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS).

Pyrite Remediation Scheme

The Pyrite Remediation Scheme (Scheme) has been set up to remediate dwellings that have been significantly damaged as a result of pyritic heave caused by the swelling of hardcore under ground floor slabs. The Scheme has been prepared by the Pyrite Resolution Board (PRB) under the Pyrite Resolution Act 2013.

Research Services

Our research function is to:

carry out research and evaluations
provide policy advice
analyse information on housing matters
distribute information on housing matters to housing practitioners and the wider public.

We have conducted research on a broad range of housing topics such as:

Social housing delivery
Housing management
Regeneration
Private rented sector
Housing for people with a disability
Traveller specific accommodation

We aim to work in partnership with the body commissioning the research project. Many of our current projects are commissioned by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government.
