Cork City Council has voted to reduce its Local Property Tax for 2016 by 10%.

Councillors voted by 14 to ten, with four abstentions following a two-hour debate.

Sinn Féin and the Anti-Austerity Alliance had proposed a 15% cut, Fianna Fáil a 10% cut while Fine Gael had proposed a 10% increase.

Despite the Sinn Féin proposal for a 15% cut, party colleague and Lord Mayor Chris O'Leary voted in favour of a 10% cut.

Yesterday, Cork county councillors agreed to increase the LPT by 5% in the wake of concerns a larger cut would affect council services.
