2,600 vacant local authority units across the country

New figures show there are 2,600 vacant local authority units across the country as the housing crisis continues.

 

The figures were obtained by Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Environment and Local Government Barry Cowen, through a series of Freedom of Information requests to each local authority.

Building and Construction Output increased by 5.5% in 2nd quarter 2015

The volume of output in building and construction increased by 5.5% in the second quarter of 2015 when compared with the preceding period.

 

This reflects increases of 25.6%, 14.6% and 3.1% respectively in the volume of civil engineering, residential building and non-residential building work*. The change in the value of production for all building and construction was +3.9%.

Minister Alan Kelly, has today published a national strategy to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water.

The Minister said: “The Government this morning approved a National Strategy to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water. The Strategy was prepared by my Department in consultation with the Department of Health, Irish Water, the HSE and the EPA, in order to map the scale of the problem and identify measures to mitigate any risks to human health posed by lead in drinking water.

The number of mortgage accounts for principal dwelling houses (PDH) in arrears continued to fall in Q1 2015 marking seven consecutive quarters of decline. A total of 104,693 (13.8 per cent) of accounts were in arrears at end-Q1, a decline of 5.1 per cent relative to Q4.

The number of homes built in Dublin city rose last year for the first time in eight years, according the latest figures from the Department of the Environment. The number of houses and apartments that were completed, the number on which construction started and the number of homes for which planning permission was granted by Dublin City Council are all at their highest levels since the boom.

PRTB rent Index Quarter 3 2014

Data for quarter 3, 2014 show that although rents continue to increase, the rate of growth moderated in the third quarter.
Based on the sub-indices it is evident that this moderation is a reflection of trends in the Dublin rental market, with the pace of increase in the rental markets outside Dublin being stronger in quarter 3 when compared with quarter 2, 2014.
